
Towards The Last Indian Border Village - Turtuk

After breakfast drive to the huge architecturally interesting Thiksey monastery covering a whole hillside. Built like the Potala Palace in Tibet, this monastery has maintained its murals and paintings very well. The huge 3-storied Maitreya Buddha is housed in one of the temples. The library with its old scriptures is also visited and the rooftop of the monastery offers one of the most beautiful views of the Indus valley and the Stok range of mountains, then drive to Hemis monastery, the largest monastery in Ladakh belonging to the Kagyupa order of Buddhism. This monastery still very active with its 500 or so odd monks has interesting paintings. The interior architecture of the Dukhang (one of the temples) is remarkable. The Tsokhang (another temple) has a big statue of Buddha. Most of the artifacts have however now been kept in a museum in the monastery complex.
Return to Leh by late afternoon. At Leisure explore the quaint Leh town.
Drive to Nubra Valley crossing the highest motorable road in the world – Khardungla at 5596m.Its 40 km to the top of the pass. In between Deskit and Hundar village are the only sand dunes of Ladakh – unique to this area as well as the double humped Bactrian camels which can be seen grazing on the wild sea buckthorn bushes. Should camels be available you can enjoy a short ride (about Rs.300/- per ride) in the sand dunes. Overnight stay at camp in Hunder.
After an early breakfast drive to Turtuk, Baltistan where people are sweeter than the Apricot. Turtuk is a picturesque border village in Baltistan, Ladakh very close to the LOC, with India and Pakistan. Overnight stay at camp in Turtuk.
Drive back to Leh. Evening free to explore the local market of Leh. Overnight stay at the hotel in Leh.
After Breakfast, we drive to Pangog Lake. It’s a lovely green valley as we drive past Sakti village to Changla pass at 5100m. The snow capped Changchenmo mountains’ reflects on the lake and the colors of the lake keep changing with the light. We spend the night at a deluxe camp at a walking distance from the lake. Walk along the shores of the lake in the evening and enjoy the tranquility of these peaceful surroundings. You would be able to see wild ducks swimming by the shores. Overnight at deluxe camp in Pangong Lake.
Return to Leh by later afternoon. Evening free to explore the market place/shopping for local artifacts. Overnight at hotel in Leh.
Rafting day trip on the Zanskar starting from Chilling and ending at Nimo. This is a thrilling grade 2+ section with freezing waters. After lunch at the beach drive back to Leh. Overnight at hotel in Leh.
After breakfast our office representative will drove you to Leh airport, fly out to Delhi and home with sweet memories of Ladakh.
